forgot to tell you Don, since you referenced it in the article, Maria goes into detail about her obsession with Mick Ronson in the interview

Marc Nichol

This just in from Marc Nichol, who read my semi-timeless cosmic cowgirl round-up "Alias In Wonderland" in the Voice(no Marc, I haven't kept up with Mckee like I should have)

I just wanted to let you know I just read an old article you wrote for the Village Voice about Maria McKee. I just got back into her music after years away and was doing some searching when I stumbled upon first a post of yours on I Love Music and then went to google to find the article at VV.

I really enjoyed it, maybe the most colorful piece I've read on her (you're quite a writer)though there's not too much out there to begin with.

I was wondering if you've kept up and had anything to add. I recently saw an old Dutch television special on her from 1995 when she was promoting Life is Sweet. I got it on a bootleg dvd which I bought for LJ's SNL appearance. I got in touch with the director Bram van Splunteren and we've gone back and forth on it for a while. It actually led me to going on the radio show he now has in Amsterdam to talk about Maria. He wanted Maria, he got me. Really bad trade imo.

He posted a clip of the special on YouTube called "Maria McKee on the dramatic demise of her band Lone Justice". It's pretty amazing stuff to me, a great interview, plus she breaks out into Rattlesnake Mama while sitting on her hotel bed and then has a great reaction at the end which kind of explains some of my fascination with her. I'm pretty much her age so remember the time.

Video got to Maria and she posted it on her facebook fanpage and it caused quite a ruckus on her private page, which I'm not part of but got a peek at thanks to Bram. She calls her behavior in the interview "bratty" but says she's more grateful now, though still a brat:).

She just made a movie with her husband called After the Triumph of Your Birth where she acts for the first time. Apparently that's her focus now she says. At least she's doing something, reportedly she's said onstage in recent years that she'd probably wouldn't even be doing music anymore unless her husband pushed her. That would be sad of course..also amazing she says that onstage, not exactly what a crowd wants to hear but that's Maria.
(PS) Maria goes into detail about her obsession with Mick Ronson in the interview
